Every dispatch needs two different verdicts
Load compliance and hours of service answer separate legal questions. The first asks whether the truck, trailer and axle groups can carry the freight in the planned position. The second asks whether the driver can complete the operating sequence within the applicable duty limits.
Passing one does not imply passing the other. A perfectly balanced trailer can leave too late for the available driving window. A driver with ample hours can be assigned a load that fails at the trailer tandem. Keeping the checks separate is correct; keeping their timelines separate is where planning breaks down.

The fourteen-hour window does not pause for the dock
For a property-carrying driver under the common federal pattern, driving is limited inside a larger duty window. Time spent waiting, inspecting or loading can consume that window even when the truck has barely moved. A late dock release therefore changes the reachable destination.
The planning timeline should begin with the driver's actual available hours and place the non-driving work where it occurs. When a delay moves the projected arrival beyond the available window, dispatch needs the warning before the appointment becomes a promise.

The physical load creates clock events
Heavy freight often adds work that a mileage-only estimate misses: scale visits, permit checks, route reviews, equipment inspections and slower operating segments. Multi-stop freight adds service time and may require the load to be checked again after cargo comes off.
These are not decorative details. Each event consumes time and some events also change weight, fuel or compliance. Putting them on one timeline makes the handoff visible: the stop affects the clock, the payload affects the axles, and both affect whether the next leg is ready.

Planning clocks are not the legal log of record
A projected HOS timeline is a planning tool. It helps a dispatcher test a run before assignment and respond when the day changes. The driver's certified electronic log is a separate record with registration, event, correction, certification and transfer requirements.
Good product language keeps that boundary explicit. Use planning arithmetic to build a feasible trip. Use the registered record workflow for the driver's legal log. When the two are shown together, label the source of each number so nobody mistakes an estimate for certified evidence.
